#Juneathon update

It’s been a quiet blog week again for which I apologise. There are various articles simmering away but none have quite bubbled over into existence on the blog so far – mostly due with me getting back into the swing of studying for my Fitness Instructor course and also because I are been mostly running a lot. Well, a lot for me, anyway. Here is my summary:

Monday: 26.5 miles hilly trail run (4h25m or so)
Tuesday: 2.5 mile walk
Wednesday: 9.2 mile trail run (1h25m)
Thursday: 1 mile treadmill, 4 mins Tabata on Rowing machine (20secs on, 10secs off), Weights
Friday: Treadmill intervals: 1 mile, 2 miles, 2 x 800m (7:02, 14:30, 3:20, 3:20)
Saturday: 2.5 mile walk
Sunday: 5.3 mile trail run (47m22s)

Total running mileage: 46 miles.

My Jubilee long run on Monday (carried over from the Sunday as it was a long weekend) went well. I averaged a fraction under 10 mins/mile while carrying a 5lb pack and going over a hilly course. I did walk the uphills in preparation for UTLD (and to stop my legs falling off again) so, given all that, it went really well. As a comparison, 2 years ago it took me a similar amount of time to cover a little over 19 miles.

Tonights run didn’t go so well. The plan was to do 2 laps of a 5 mile (plus change) route my hip was aching at the start and after 1 lap, my left shin was aching and I felt seven shades of out-of-sorts so, prudence being the better part of valour, I called time on the run and went home to the painful pleasure of my foam-roller. I’m sure I can’t be the only one who has issues with doing the requsite maintenance on my pins and neither stretch or massage enough. So this week I think I’ll cut back on miles and work on recovery.
